The main cause of bacteria is water in the tank.
-
Sediment is mostly from the interior of the tank rusting. Sludge is waste from the active bacteria that have died off and dropped to the bottom of the tank.
-
Customers can always pull their own samples. We recommend pulling the sample from the probe riser, this is where the tank levels are taken from giving you the most accurate representation of the fuel in the tank. Samples from the fill will usually appear clean, this is due to constant fuel drops pushing sediment bacteria and water to the low end of the tank. Samples from pump nozzles are filtered and will not give an accurate representation of what is going on inside of the tank.
-
No pumps need to be shut down. The only area while servicing that needs to be blocked off would be the immediate area around the truck/equipment.
-
The tank does not need to be full. With diesel fuel what is preferred is at least half the tank and for ethanol based fuels the preferable is 3/4 full.
-
Diesel fuel the recommendation is every year and for any other fuels the recommendation is every other year or when an issue arises.
-
Biocide will kill the bacteria suspended in the fuel dropping it to the tank bottom where it can be “swept” out" and sent though our polishing system to remove the decontamination.
